Bought this book for my daughter's boyfriend. He was delighted with it and is going to start home brewing and it is very detailed and well laid out. The book arrived very promptly and was in excellent condition.

As an enthusiastic home brewer, with three dozen all grain brews over the last couple of years, I eagerly awaited this new edition. I seem to be the first reviewer who has actually paid for this book, having had it on pre-order before available. For context, I love books and have collected 30 brewing books already, have tried several of the recipes from Greg Hughes last edition of this book which have all been excellent, with the exception of the Honey ale, which to my taste was under hopped. In brief, summarising pros and cons between editions as follows. The Pros: It remains probably the best basic introduction to home brewing a very wide variety of ales. There are small additional sections such as souring techniques added. Recipes cover almost all of the major beer styles, with newer styles added for this new addition. There are 12 new recipes added, photos attached with asterisks on the new recipes. The only recipe omitted is the Scottish 70 shilling. The majority of these additional recipes involve somewhat more complex or advanced brewing techniques and may need additional input or research other than just the recipe, unlike most of the recipes from the previous book. The layout for the single hop recipes has improved. It remains extremely good value at under £15 The Cons: There are subtle changes in readability. The font has changed, which for my eyes makes it less readily readable. The paper is now matte finish. There is far less colour, presumably to reduce cost, but this also reduces the accessibility of information. I have included pictures from each book of a single recipe, for comparison. They’re both taken under the same artificial light. Overall, as the previous edition is available for only approximately 5 pounds at the moment, I would snap that up, if interested in starting Homebrewing or extending your homebrew library, unless of course some of the above additional recipes are to your taste.

Have now brewed 10 beers from this, have not had a bad beer. Every beer seems to be well balanced and taste great. Although i would definitely copy these into brewfather app to work out ph/water addition numbers if you want the beer to shine even more. Recipes i have enjoyed the most are the dunkelweizen, kolsch and the spring beer. NEIPA and Belgian blonde recipes also hit the spot!
