this is a new book with a new feature QR codes, i am not really embraced all this, but looking at other reviewers, the book had been published before all the content is on the website. having owned several Camra homebrew books, i would say this book is basically a reset from the previous camra books. So from the old/new British real ale book from 60 to 80 pages on how to make beer before the recipe section to 240 pages in the new book. I think if you were new to homebrewing the recipes in the older book is probably better as it is trying to replicate a standard pub bitter, but the information, in terms of the depth and what is currently available in the new book. my main critism of the book is the couple of pages on sustainability. If you want to make a sustainable product, making cider is way better for the environment that making beer. The main advantage to cider is there is no cooking or mashing or malting that requires heat, the only power you need is to drive a mill, and if you ran a 2 kW mill for a hour you would have between a quarter to half a ton of milled fruit that could produce anything upto 300 litres of cider, but cider other advantage is it is from the fruit of a tree and you only need to dig the ground one, but with beer, the ground is ploughed annaully. The other part of the chapter about feeding spent grain to cattle and yeast to pigs. Depending which country you are based, you might need to get council permission to feed to livestock, when I went around Robinsons brewery 20 years ago the guide said about the local farmer forgetting to cook the spent yeast to his pigs and he had exploding pigs from the live yeast. One thing the book did not mention was reusing glass bottles. it basically focused on water usage and how brewing requires a lot of water. I think this book is worth buying as an additional book as it has so much more information than the previous Camra books regarding all the technical stuff, when at the time it was a cool box with a burco boiler and very challenging method of temperature control and having a limits variety of hops , malts and yeasts and the method of dispense was from a plastic poly barrel, compared to now where the amount of choices is endless. if you are concerned about the environment, make cider instead, zero ploughing, zero cooking, people can offer the ingredients to you for free.

Comprehensive brewing information but it's a hard read, especially the first 138 pages. I'm not sure why they released this book without the QR codes working (especially as they make It a selling point). It probably would have made the content more accessible. I appreciate that the Malt Miller sponsored the book but it didn't require the mid book advertisement. It's a shame because I think it misses the mark on what the authors intended and doesn't feel complete to me.

Interesting book with beers to brew, with full ingredient lists all available from the Malt Miller. Best price on Amazon, better than direct from the Malt Miller or CAMRA. QR Codes link to missing “Instructional Video links”, the “Malt Miller” website says “ Video content coming soon “ they have had over 12 months to deliver on this promise. Interestingly the recommended websites to learn about brewing miss the most important one “David Heath Home Brew” strangely he doesn't get a mention, for someone who is considered a brewing God, this is one big omission.
